Understanding the Islamic world will be the focus of a lecture at Oklahoma Baptist University Monday, Oct. 23. Dr. Yvonne Haddad, a noted expert on Islamic issues, will speak on “The United States and the Islamic Threat,” at 7 p.m., in the upper level of OBU’s Geiger Center. The lecture is hosted by OBU’s Distinguished Speakers Committee.
Haddad is professor of History of Islam and Christian-Muslim relations at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. She specializes in contemporary Islamic issues, women in Islam and Islam in America.
Haddad has taught in a number of universities in North America and abroad, including several countries in the Middle East as well as India and in Africa. She has written or co-written seven books, and edited 12 other works, including The Muslims of America and Islam, Gender and Social Change.
The Distinguished Speakers Committee formed in 2004 as a student initiative. The nine-member student committee works to bring nationally and internationally known speakers to the OBU campus for co-curricular academic discourse.
