What may sound like a thundering herd rumbling through the streets of Shawnee on October 14 will be runners participating in the Bisonathon, a half-marathon and 5K run.
Oklahoma Baptist University’s Student Foundation is hosting the new event. The race will start on the OBU campus at 7:20 a.m.
“Our goal for the Bisonathon is to see students, faculty, alumni and the Shawnee community take active interest in this race,” said Terry Rimmer, OBU Student Foundation president. “We have seen a growing interest in running on campus and have created this event to target those students as well as encourage others to engage in fitness.”
Rimmer said the Student Foundation plans for the Bisonathon to be an annual event, along with the organization’s Stampede of Stars and Barnyard Olympics student competitions.
“We envision this event will raise scholarship money to be awarded by Student Foundation,” said Rimmer. “We have already seen an interest to expand this event into a full marathon or a duathlon, running and biking, in the years to come.”
People expressing interest in the Bisonathon range from full-marathon trainees to those wanting to walk the 5K event, Rimmer said.
General entry fee for the Bisonathon is $25, before Oct. 12. Groups of eight or more may enter for $20 each. Late entry fee, after Oct. 12, is $35.
