Young Singers of Central Oklahoma, featuring the Concert Choir and Youth Chorale will present a concert at Oklahoma Baptist University, Sunday, April 23, at 3 p.m., in Raley Chapel’s Yarborough Auditorium.
Formerly known as Music Preparatory Honor Choirs, YSCO is a community choral music program which offers vocal instruction and performance opportunities for singers ranging in age from seven to 18.
“Three students from last year’s concert are presently freshman music majors at OBU,” said Dr. Darla Eshelman, OBU associate professor of music education. “We hope to continue encouraging and recruiting students from these choirs to attend OBU.”
Eshelman serves as the director of YSCO while OBU music education students are given the opportunity to serve as student conductors, accompanists and assistants for the choirs.
The student conductors for the April 23 concert are Katie Cease, a senior music education major from Tulsa, Okla.; Heather Davidson, a sophomore music education major from Shawnee, Okla.; Bethany Hailey, a junior music education major from Raleigh, N.C.; Emily Rose, a senior music education major from Edmond, Okla.; and Jenna Smith, a senior music education major from Bolivar, Mo.
The Concert Choir’s program will include music composed by Stuart Younse and Jim Papoulis, as well as a piece by Eshelman.
The Youth Chorale’s program will include songs written by Nicolo Jommelli, Roger Emerson and Moses Hogan. The combined choirs also will sing two songs during the program. One is arranged by Barbara Baker and David J. Elliott, and the other is a work written by Katie Moran Bart.
