OBU Students Fare Well at NATS Auditions

Six Oklahoma Baptist University students reached the final rounds at the recent National Association of Teachers of Singing state district auditions. A total of 14 OBU students attended the meeting at East Central University in Ada.
Aaron Foshee, from Jones, Okla., earned second place honors in the freshman male vocal competition. He is a student of Rhetta Hudson, OBU associate professor of music.
Laura Ingram, from Kansas City, Mo., placed third in the freshman women’s finals. She also is one of Hudson’s students.
Four other OBU participants advanced to the final rounds. They were Katie Overturf, a freshman from Fort Smith, Ark.; Daniell Tipton, a sophomore from Norman, Okla.; Taylor Weaver, a freshman from Oklahoma City; and Cassandra Villanueva, a freshman from Rogers, Ark.
Overturf and Weaver are students of Norma Partridge, OBU associate professor of music. Tipton is a student of Hudson, and Villanueva is a student of Dr. Don Clark, OBU senior professor of music.
Other students participating in the NATS auditions were Whitni Butler, a freshman from Sapulpa, Okla.; Micaela Mitchell, a sophomore from Shawnee, Okla.; Bethany Simmons, a freshman from Grapevine, Texas; Drew Prince, a freshman from Tomball, Texas; Daniel Evans, a freshman from Moore, Okla., Richard DeCray, a sophomore from Moore, Okla.; Mary Sanders, a senior from Shawnee, Okla.; Keri Burman, a senior vocal performance and musical theater emphasis major from Edmond, Okla.; and Emily Rose, a senior from Edmond, Okla.
NATS was founded in 1944 and is now the largest association of teachers of singing in the world. The organization boasts more than 6,300 members in the United States, Canada, and more than 25 other countries around the world.
The organization’s mission is: “to encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.”
