Homecoming Celebration Coming November 11-12

Reunions, Watermark Concert Highlight Weekend

Reunion celebrations, recognition of outstanding alumni, and a concert by the contemporary Christian music group Watermark will highlight Homecoming 2005 on the OBU campus November 11 and 12. Tickets are now on sale for the weekend events.

“Get Reconnected … revisit, reunite, renew” is the theme for the annual celebration. Alumni from OBU class years ending in “0” and “5” will gather for special events throughout the weekend. All alumni and friends are also invited to Homecoming activities, which range from small group reunions to basketball games and the Saturday night Harvest Festival.

Festivities will kick off with the 50th anniversary reunion for the Class of 1955, as well as the 55th anniversary reunion for the Class of 1950 and the annual 50-Year Club luncheon on Friday morning. Nine reunioning classes will meet for luncheons on campus on Saturday.

OBU’s Joe L. Ingram School of Christian Service will hosts its first-ever reunion dinner on November 12, meeting in the Geiger Center to reflect on the school’s history and hear from noted alum Mack Roark, ’58. Also on Saturday evening, the School of Nursing will host a 50th anniversary reunion dinner, focusing on the reunioning classes as part of the school’s five-year golden anniversary celebration.

During Friday’s Harvest Dinner, Dr. Claudine Franks Dickey, ’60, retired dean of the School of Nursing, will receive the Alumni Achievement Award, the highest honor presented by the OBU Alumni Association. Nathan Nockels, ’97, and his wife, Christy Hill Nockels, ex ’93, will receive the Graduate Of the Last Decade award. Also, Carrie Moss, ’99, and Dr. Norris Russell will be inducted into the OBU Athletic Hall of Fame.

The annual Homecoming Chapel, at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, will feature a message from Dr. John Bisagno, ’55, and recognition of the 12 Profile In Excellence honorees for 2005.

The Nockels, who comprise the popular music group Watermark, will cap off the weekend with a free concert on Saturday evening in Raley Chapel, following the Harvest Festival.
