McAlester Pastor to Speak in Chapel

Dr. E. Randall Adams will lead Oklahoma Baptist University's Sept. 18 chapel service. Adams is pastor of First Baptist Church in McAlester, Okla., where he has served since 1994.

OBU chapel services are on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the university's Potter Auditorium

Adams previously was pastor of Central Baptist Church in Italy, Texas, and Fairview Baptist Church in Rhome, Texas. He also served as minister of evangelism at First Baptist Church of White Settlement, Texas.

During Adams' ministry at FBC, the church has almost doubled in Sunday school attendance. They recently initiated an after-school ministry program, purchased land for relocation and began a full-time television station. They also have implemented several mission and ministry programs.

In addition to his work with the church, Adams has served as camp pastor at Falls Creek Baptist Assembly as well as preaching at International Mission Board missionary retreats in Pakistan, Singapore, India and Thailand and at two crusades in Malawi and Mexico. In 1999, he delivered the sermon for the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma's annual meeting.

Adams has written articles published in the Journal of Theology of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and The Leader Magazine. He is a trustee for Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and has served on the BGCO's Executive Committee and Nominating Committee. He currently is a member of the Board of Directors for the BGCO.

Adams received his bachelor of science degree in petroleum engineering from Montana Tech. He received a master of divinity degree and a doctorate of philosophy from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

He and his wife, Paula, have two sons.

OBU also will host a student-led chapel service on Friday, Sept. 20, at 10 a.m. The service is intended to be a time of music, prayer and scripture, led by Joe Finke, senior English major from Independence, Mo.

Dale Griffin, campus minister, will speak briefly to students about worship.
