Da Vinci Expert Visiting Lecturer at OBU

Oklahoma Baptist University will host a lecture by physicist and Leonardo daVinci expert Bulent Atalay, Thursday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. in Yarborough Auditorium.

Dr. Atalay, professor of physics at Mary Washington College in Virginia, will lecture on "The Two Leondardos: Symmetry in Art and Nature" as part of OBU's Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts Fall Artist Series. Atalay's lectures explore the many sides of DaVinci's work, including his accomplishments during the Italian Renaissance as an artist, scientist and engineer.

The program is funded in part by the DaVinci Institute, a collaborative venture of Oklahoma colleges, universities, arts agencies and private contributors to encourage and support the arts and arts education in Oklahoma.

A professor for more than 30 years, Atalay is an expert in several topics of modern physics, including alternate sources of energy. He also is knowledgeable in high technology techniques as they apply to archaeology.

Atalay is a frequent lecturer at the Smithsonian Institution's "Campus on the Mall" program. He also has been the invited to speak to large gatherings of NASA scientists.

He is a member of the American Physical Society and has led seminars for the physics and chemistry departments at the Technical University of Malaysia. He also has chaired an international conference in Seoul, Korea, on "Symmetry in Its Various Aspects: Search for Order in the Universe"

Atalay has a Ph.D. degree in theoretical physics, a master of science degree in nuclear physics and a bachelor of science degree in physics, mathematics and philosophy from Georgetown University. He was awarded a master of arts degree by decree from Oxford University.

He completed post-doctoral research at Oxford, the University of California-Berkley, Princeton University, and the Institute for Advanced Study.

The lecture is free and open to the public. For more information, contact OBU's College of Fine Arts at (405) 878-2305 or visit www2.okbu.edu.
