Women from all over the state of Oklahoma are invited to join a special recognition service in their honor on Wednesday, April 5. Oklahoma Baptist University's annual Women's Day chapel service will recognize the contributions of Oklahoma Baptist women.
Dr. Rhonda Kelley will be the guest speaker for the 10 a.m. program in OBU's Raley Chapel. Kelley is associate director of Innovative Evangelism, and first lady of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. Kelley also will be the featured speaker at an 11 a.m. luncheon following the chapel service.
Kelley is the wife of Charles S. Kelley Jr., president of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. They have served as president and first lady of the seminary since 1996.
She earned bachelor's and master's degrees in speech pathology and audiology from Baylor University and a Ph.D. degree in special education and speech pathology from the University of New Orleans.
She was director of speech pathology at Ochsner Medical Institutions in New Orleans for 15 years prior to moving into a full-time writing, speaking and teaching ministry,
Since 1989 Kelley has been the host of "Woman to Woman," a weekly half-hour inspirational broadcast on a New Orleans Christian radio station and the local ACTS network. The program features interviews with various personalities on topics of interest to women.
Kelley was managing editor and a contributing writer for the new Woman's Study Bible, produced in 1995 by Thomas Nelson Publishers. She is the author of two books, "Divine Discipline: How to Develop and Maintain Self-Control," released in 1992; and a study guide for "Don't Miss the Blessing," released in 1990, both published by Pelican Publishing Co.
The OBU chapel service is free and open to the public. The Women's Day luncheon will be in the university's Geiger Center. Cost for the luncheon is $8. For more information, contact OBU's religious life office at 405-878-2377.
