David Kenworthy

Assistant Professor of Theatre and Design Technician


Kenworthy has worked professionally in the area of technical theatre for the past 15 years. Most recently, he served as technical director at the Arkley Center for the Performing Arts in Eureka, Calif., from 2006-12. In this capacity he coordinated all technical aspects of the center including work with touring theatre productions, rock-and-roll concerts and specialty events. Kenworthy also worked as on-site project coordinator for the Arkley Center’s multi-million dollar restoration project. In this role, he consulted on and oversaw the installation of the center’s lighting systems, sound systems and stage rigging.

In addition to his years at the Arkley Center, Kenworthy’s technical theatre experiences include positions with Walt Disney World, Wilson Events and the Ferndale Repertory Theatre. He has worked along side such groups as the Beach Boys, Mercy Me, Charlie Daniels, Three Dog Night, Tower of Power and many others. His 15-year professional career is further enhanced by numerous and varied stage management experiences.

Kenworthy currently holds a master of fine arts degree in scenography from Humboldt State University, a Bachelor of Arts in theatre from Chico State University and an associate’s degree from Shasta College. While working on his master’s degree at Humboldt State, he also served as master electrician. He began developing a love for theatre at age 10 while learning to run sound for his church.

Kenworthy has been married to his wife, Sarah, for 15 years, and they have three children: Daniel, age 18 (who is in the USMC); Connor, age 13; and Paige, age 8.
