Leslie Poe (Kerr and Howard Residence Director)

Hello, and welcome to Bison Hill!  This place has made a tremendous impact on my life, and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to see it do the same in yours.  As the Resident Director for Kerr and Howard, it is my job (and my joy!) to walk with you through the college experience, to make your residence hall feel like home, to be your advocate, and to get to know you.  The whole "getting to know you" part is a two-way street, so please stop by my office or knock on my door and introduce yourself!  

Speaking of introducing yourself, allow me to do the same.  In 2004 I graduated from this great University with my bachelors degree in Family Psychology and a minor in Religion.  After a year of working in a private, non-profit children's hospital for special needs children, I continued to feel a strong pull toward working with college students.  This calling led me to Baylor University in Waco, Texas (Sic' Em!) where I received my Master of Science in Educational Administration, specializing in Student Affairs.  What that really means is that I study the ins and outs of the college experience for a living...pretty cool, huh?  My two years at Baylor were filled with fabulous experiences, but in my heart I was always reminded of this special place that we call Bison Hill.  When this position opened last Spring, I jumped at the chance to return to my Alma Mater and return the investment!

On the personal side, I am married to Jonathan (so if you see a tall, dark, and handsome man coming into Kerr after visiting hours, don't call security...it's just Jonathan!), a 2001 graduate of OBU.  After receiving an MBA and working as a financial analyst for the past 5 years, he is leaving the corporate world to pursue a career in the medical field.  Some of you Science majors may find him next to you in class!  

Once again, I am honored to serve as your Resident Director and eagerly await your arrival on campus.  Let the adventure begin!

Jessica Patterson (WMU Residence Director)

"Welcome to OBU! I am so excited about experiencing this next year with the Class of 2011, freshmen girls.
It seems so strange to be eight years removed from the anxiety of moving in to OBU. My one word of comfort to all of you sweet girls is, everyone feels the rush of excitement and fear that you will experience. There is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a wonderful year, full of surprises.

There is no doubt in my mind that this is going to be a wonderful year, full of surprises. I am a May 2004 graduate of OBU. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art with a minor in Religion. I am continuing my education right now at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.  I am excited to see how God uses my life to enrich your lives according to his wonderful plan.  Looking back on my years at OBU, I can see the hand of God very clearly on my life. If there is anything that you can look forward to, it is growth. I look forward to witnessing some of those changes this year!

Michael Burns (Men's Residence Director)

"Props to all the Fellas returning or coming for the first time to OBU! This is going to be my third year as the Men’s Housing Director and I look forward to getting to be a part of your experience here. By experience I mean brotherhood and community that you will find living on this campus. Faith Baldwin said "You cannot contribute anything to the ideal condition of mind and heart known as Brotherhood, however much you preach, posture or agree, unless you live it." Life long friends will be made here. The RA’s and I will do our best to foster an environment where you can learn the essentials to be a good neighbor.

I graduated from OBU in 2003, with a degree in Biblical Languages. I enjoyed the training and knowledge I gained from many aspects of college life, from going to classes to staying up late talking about sports, religion and girls. I got married on July 1 of this year to Jessica, who also works at OBU in the admissions office. We are both glad you are here and look forward to hanging out. By the way she can really cook, so if you miss home a little don’t hesitate to knock on our door."

Monica Mullins (Assistant Dean of Students)

"As assistant dean of students my responsibilities include supervising the overall programs for Residential Life and Student Activities.

I am a 1988 OBU graduate with a degree in English and received my master of education degree from Azusa Pacific University in May 1998. I am beginning my fifteenth year in my current position at OBU. Prior to serving in Residential Life and Student Activities, I spent three years working at OBU as an admissions counselor. As assistant dean of students, I am responsible for housing assignments for all students, approving room changes, and supervising the Residential Life program and staff as a whole. I am also responsible for CAB, UCS, Welcome Week, Blitz Week, the Distinguished Speakers Committee, and several other committees and organizations. In addition to these responsibilities, I also serve as an adjunct professor at OBU teaching Freshman English. My office is GC 206 (x2404). I live in the little brown house between HRC and WUA (747 West University Drive)."
