New track makes trek possible
November 18, 2010
Oklahoma Baptist University joggers have a myriad of options concerning paths to run. They can jog around the RAWC’s indoor track, on a treadmill, around campus, around the airport track and various other roads through Shawnee.
Now they have one more, a sidewalk has been constructed connecting St. Gregory’s University track to the airport track.
Until now, joggers could jog about three quarters of a mile before facing a choice as to continue following the airport track or travel over a one quarter mile long road embankment before a sidewalk continued on to St. Gregory’s or run on the narrow shouldered road.
The embankment was notorious for staying muddy days after rain. Now this is no longer a problem. The new sidewalk allows joggers to seamlessly transition from the airport track to the St. Gregory’s track.
This is particularly of advantage because it is approximately one mile from the start of the sidewalk (near the Agee field entrance) to St. Gregory’s. It is another mile around the St. Gregory’s track. So, the newly constructed sidewalk allows for a three-mile round trip that keeps runners out of the road and their shoes out of the mud. The track was open for use as of press time.
