Harry Potter movie set to explode box offices

Friday, Nov. 19 marks the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. The movie, which is split into two parts, is based of the seventh and final book of the series by J.K. Rowling. As the date of the premiere approaches, students are eagerly making plans to see the midnight premiere.
Due to the anticipation of the movie, many students had to buy tickets in advance for theaters such as the Warren and Harkins. Senior Nursing major Amy Sullivan said “I am going to Harkins because the Warren was already sold out.”
Many students will also be dressing up for the premiere. “I am going as Antonin Dolohov (a Death Eater),” said Senior Sociology major Steve Lambiase. Many people like to dress up as their favorite characters, but Lambiase said, “Typically I think, who would be fun.” Sullivan takes a different take and chooses “someone no one else is going to be. It’s boring when you see 57 Harry’s and Hermione’s.”
Both Lambiase and Sullivan have been to multiple midnight premieres for the series. “I have gone to every midnight premiere. I love Harry Potter so much. I could never miss it,” said Junior Graphic Design major Lexi Faught.
Wednesday before the premiere there is a Muggle Feast from 7-9 p.m. in Montgomery Hall Lounge. There will be Harry Potter themed games and trivia contests, literary readings from the series and even a costume contest.
Faught said “I will probably not put too terribly much effort into my costume just because I have a lot of other things like studying to do.”
To attend the Muggle Feast, students must purchase a ticket for $1 in the Geiger Center on Nov. 15-17. These tickets permit entry to Muggle Fest as well as enter students into drawings to win Harry Potter prizes.
While students are excited about the series, some are sad that it is almost over. “I got chills when I saw the trailer,” Lambiase said.
Sullivan said, “I am sad it is all almost over. I enjoy the books so much. I read them every year.”
