You know those times in life when you see things that make you go “WHAT!?” “Why!?” or maybe not so dramatically “Huh?” or a dry “For real?”
I seem to have those moments a lot. In order to make sure that I am not just some crazy man, I thought I would share some of them with you. Hopefully you share some of my same feelings.
Straws. No I’m not talking about straws in a drinking cup, but rather straws in things such as spray bottles or condiment dispensers.
Have you ever noticed that these straws never seem to reach to the bottom of their containers? This drives me crazy! Why!? There is always some liquid or condiment or whatever left at the bottom.
This means that if you buy a 20 oz. bottle of cleaner, you only get 19.5 oz. Not a big deal, but you did pay for 20. And with condiments - Does the fact the straw is short mean that the condiments at the bottom of the container never get used?
That poses serious problems. Even if the ketchup at the top is fresh, do you really want it in the same container with ketchup that’s three years old? I don’t.
Another thing I have always wondered about is kids on leashes. Parents, why do you feel the need to put your child on a leash? I usually see this at fairs or amusement parks.
Sure, kids like to run off, but is it that hard to keep track of them without hitching them up like a dog?
I have seen parents with two leashes in their hand – one for their dog and one for their kid. This can’t be good for the kid’s self esteem! I always wonder, do the kids eat out of a dog bowl too?
Or does treating your kids like family pets only seem like a good idea when in public? The things people do…
One final thing that makes me wonder. Why are people always in such a hurry to leave class? As a rule, with two or three minutes left in class, 95 percent of the class starts to pack up their stuff.
They put on their jackets, put their books in their bags and swing the bags onto one shoulder, as if leaving the room quickly is a matter of life and death.
Oh, and when the teacher says, “Next class…,” the stampede is on! Everyone stands up and starts edging towards the door. I feel more tenseness in that moment than I do in my set position waiting for the gun in the 100 meters (I like to run…like Forest Gump). Calm Down! I know you don’t want to get to your next class that badly. Or maybe you do. If this is the case you are probably edging toward the door as you feel the end of my column approaching.
Well, those are a few of the things that make me wonder. Hopefully you found them insightful, or if you did not, then I at least hope you don’t think I am crazy. Maybe you read this and went, “Huh?” If that is the case maybe you would like to write a column about my column. Listen to me. What am I saying? Maybe I am crazy. Sometimes I wonder.
