Nicole Thompson, student of Sandra Meyer, auditioned for and was selected to play in a master class for Nelita True, nationally and internationally known piano instructor. Nelita served as chair of the piano department of the Eastman School of Music for a number years and still teaches on the school’s piano faculty. The workshop, called PianOKC, was in late June at the University of Central Oklahoma. Nicole had a 45-minute session with Nelita and also played Copland’s Passacaglia in the participants’ recital the final evening. Other participants were from the Oklahoma City and Tulsa areas.

MAKE A HABIT OUT OF BEANIES
Your help is still needed. Habitat for Humanity is making the beanies for our huge class of incoming freshmen. We need as many volunteers as possible to assist with this effort. University Baptist Church is the location for work days throughout the summer. Beginning June 18 and continuing through July 30, volunteers will meet Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. at UBC for two-hour work sessions. In addition, there are two Saturday work sessions, June 21 and July 12, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. We need volunteers to come and bring their sewing machines and a few to bring irons. Volunteers also are needed to cut the bands for the beanies – prior to the first sewing session. Have questions or need additional information? RAZZLE DAZZLE SUMMER CAMP THIS WEEK
Razzle Dazzle Summer Camp will be July 14-17 at 1813 N. Harrison. The camp is from 5-6:45 p.m. for ages 3 through sixth grade. Your child will participate in 12 classes consisting of: 3-4 year tap/ballet, 3-4 year jazz/hip hop, tumbling, cheer stunts, karate/self defense, double-dutch jump rope, drama, art, magic tricks, balloon animals, and more. MABEE-GERRER SUMMER CAMP OFFERED
The Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art is hosting one more summer art camp this year. July 21-25 will be World of Color, with MGMoA preparator Clay Little and MGMoA Afterschool Art coordinator Lacy Abbott. Kids will begin exploring the infinite possibility of colors and the ways in which they complement each other. Participants can practice color theory by creating paintings, mosaics and sculptures with Clay and Lacy.
Prices start at $60 for the week with discounts for multiple siblings, and for members of the museum. Additional discounts are available for those who qualify for free or reduced lunch at school.

HEARTLINE PROVIDES VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
HeartLine’s Volunteer Center of Central Oklahoma serves as a clearinghouse matching individuals and groups interested in volunteering with service opportunities in the Central Oklahoma community. The volunteer center also specializes in providing service opportunities for youth, individually or in groups, as well as adult groups wishing to take on a special project or a regular schedule of service to their community. LEADERSHIP SUMMIT COMING IN AUGUST
OBU students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the The Leadership Summit, August 7-8. The event, hosted by the Willow Creek Association, is broadcast live via satellite from the campus of Willow Creek Community Church in suburban Chicago to more than 140 locations across North America. The Oklahoma City satellite location is Crossings Community Church in northwest Oklahoma City. Students, faculty and staff can register for the reduced rate of $75 for the two-day event.
