OBU Baseball History
Bison Baseball is nearly as old as the University itself and has traditionally been a strong program.
OBU reached the pinnacle of NAIA baseball for the first time in 1989 when they won the Sooner Athletic Conference, advanced past District 9 and Area tournaments to its first national championship tournament.
The Bison got off to a strong start behind its powerful 1-2 pitching tandem of Bruce Throckmorton and NAIA Player of the Year David Hocking, but the Bison finished fourth after being eliminated by the host institution Lewis-Clark State.
OBU made it back to the NAIA World Series, this time in Sioux City, Iowa, in 1996. The Bison coasted through a regional but after several days of rain and relentless delays, OBU was eliminated in two games.
Head Coach Bobby Cox orchestrated both of those OBU trips to the promised land, becoming the winningest coach in OBU history in all sports.
While most players come to OBU for the opportunity of a great education, a good many of them during Cox's tenure have been drafted.
