OBU's top annual honors for employees are presented to three members of the faculty and staff during spring Commencement. Alumni and members of the OBU campus community are encouraged to submit nominations for the awards. The honors are funded annually through the OBU Alumni Association by two graduates. >>

Nominate Your Favorite Professor

Each year, OBU recognizes faculty and staff members who have distinguished themselves through their teaching or service to the university. The university is currently accepting nominations for our three major awards: Distinguished Teaching, Meritorious Service, and Promising Teacher. Here is a complete list of previous award recipients. >>>>

If you would like to nominate an OBU faculty member or staff member for one of these honors, please review the criteria below. Nominations can be emailed to Jana Vandertook at or mailed to her attention at OBU Box 61241, 500 West University, Shawnee, OK 74804.

OBU Distinguished Teaching Award

1. Must currently be a full-time teaching faculty member.
2. Must have served on the OBU faculty for a minimum of five consecutive years.
3. Must have distinguished himself or herself in the teaching profession over a period of several years as acknowledged by former students, peers, and current students.
4. May receive the award only once in a six-year period.

OBU Meritorious Service Award

1. Must currently be a full-time faculty member or a full-time member of the administrative or support staff.
2. Must have been on the OBU faculty or staff for a minimum of ten years.
3. Must have distinguished himself or herself in service to the University as acknowledged by former students, current students, peers, or other University friends.
4. May receive the award only once.

OBU Promising Teacher Award

1. Must currently be a full-time teaching faculty member.
2. Must have been on the OBU faculty for less than six years.
3. Must have proven himself or herself to have outstanding teaching promise as acknowledged by former students, peers, and current students.
4. May receive the award only once.

You are invited to nominate an individual for each of these awards. Your nomination should include the name of the person nominated, the award for which you are nominating him/her (please be sure to use the correct award name), and a brief statement regarding why you think your nominee should be considered.

The honors are presented annually during Spring Commencement.
