  • Population of about 30,000 people-it's a fairly small American city
  • Located in a metropolitan area of over 1 million people
  • Shopping mall of more than 30 stores, plus a Super Wal-Mart (supermarket) open 24 hours a day
  • Convenience store located in the Student Union (the Geiger Center)
  • 2 multi-screen theatres plus 2 single-screen theatres downtown

  • Excellent health care facilities, with referral to the University of Oklahoma's Health Sciences Center if required
  • Easy access to international air travel via Will Rogers International Airport, Oklahoma City;  OBU provides scheduled transportation to and from the airport for international students
  • About three hours from the Dallas/Fort Worth airport
  • Home to many Native American [i.e., Indian] people
  • Weather in Shawnee is usually temperate. Although there are extremes, those intense periods do not last long.  December and January can be cold, but spring arrives usually in February.  July and August are hot, but the fall is delightful.
