What makes an OBU Political Science degree special?
An OBU political science graduate can get into Law School or graduate school of their choice. We have OBU graduates that have attended any number of law schools including Washington and Lee, Vanderbilt, OU and Baylor. Also, our graduates go on to graduate school and several have completed their Ph.D. If academics is not your goal, our graduates go on to work in international settings, the FBI, and the Peace Corps. If elected politics is your goal, many of our graduates work in the White House, the Pentagon, and various state legislative settings. Our graduates succeed.
What are OBU grads doing with their Political Science degrees?
Law school, graduate school, Peace Corps, Oklahoma legislative assistant/researcher, Ohio Legislative Assistant, Kansas Ph.D. librarian, assistant to President Bush (2), the Pentagon, Assistant to Wyoming US Senator, FBI, Secret Service, Business managers, NGO (India), teachers (all levels including Russia), and several have studies abroad in Czechoslovakia, England and Spain.
What courses can I take?
The best political science class at OBU is the US Presidency. It covers all of the presidents and yet we have lively debates about recent and current administrative policies. The various simulations give the student ample opportunity to learn about law, legislative procedures and how to conduct a random survey. Model Arab League is tremendous for debate and intercultural experiences. Politics and the Media is a fantastic course on how the media functions and how it should function.
What do OBU Political Science faculty specialize in?
- Dr. Tony Litherland specializes in congress.
Various simulations provide out-of-the-class experiences. Additionally, we have a small fund that defrays the cost of internships locally, in Washington D.C. and around the world.
