My degree options:
What makes an OBU Mathematics degree special?
The OBU Mathematics degree is special because students receive a quality education in one of the most powerful majors available, and they receive that education in small personalized classes. Almost all of our junior and senior level classes have between five and twelve students in them. This allows direct interaction with our very gifted faculty.
What are OBU grads doing with their Mathematics degrees?
Recent OBU Mathematics graduates are working in the aerospace industry in Wichita, Kansas, teaching in Saint Louis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and other cities and small towns in Oklahoma and surrounding states. One of our graduates just finished a two-year missionary tenure in a very restricted area.
What courses can I take?
Naturally, the mathematics degree begins with the calculus. Newton’s development of calculus was possibly the greatest watershed event in the advancement of knowledge. Majors also take differential equations, linear algebra, and numerical analysis. These courses are essential in physics, engineering, and computer science.
The Department of Mathematics has an active Mathematics Club and has sent students to regional mathematics conferences in the past. We have been successful in arranging student intern programs and having students accepted to Undergraduate Research Programs.
