FAQs
Is the School of Christian Studies accredited?
The School of Christian Studies (SCS) is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools which means that its program has the same accreditation standards as OBU's on-campus programs. The SCS operates with the approval of the University's board of trustees. Those who teach SCS courses are required to have at least a master's degree from a Southern Baptist seminary and approval by the dean of the Herschel H. Hobbs College of Theology and Ministry. College-level curriculum materials and teaching aids used in SCS courses are written by faculty and adjunct faculty of the Hobbs College.
Where do classes meet?
SCS classes meet at SCS centers across Oklahoma and in other states. In addition, classes are also offered in an online format.
Who can enroll in SCS?
SCS is open to anyone at least 23 years of age, and who has graduated from high school or obtained a GED certificate.
How do I enroll?
1. Apply and be admitted to the program
You can fill out your application online or you can mail your application (pdf) to the SCS office. In addition, please have official transcripts from your high school (or GED certificate) and any colleges, universities or seminaries attended mailed to the SCS office.
2. After being admitted to SCS, contact the SCS center nearest you or the SCS director (if taking an online course) in order to enroll.
What degree can I earn through MTI?
Course credit earned through SCS classes can be applied toward a Diploma, Associate of Arts, or Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies.
If you have already completed a bachelor's degree, you can obtain a second degree by completing a 39 credit hour program available through MTI.
General education courses required in the A.A. and B.A. degrees are not offered through SCS study, but students may complete those courses on OBU's Shawnee campus or another accredited college or university (See the OBU catalog for restrictions on transfer credit).
