Dr. Michael McGough began his tenure as dean of OBU's Joe L. Ingram School of Christian Service in January 2007. He is a noted academician, missionary and frontier church planter.
Prior to moving to OBU, McGough was professor of preaching and pastoral ministry at the Canadian Southern Baptist Seminary in Cochrane, Alberta. He also was the seminary’s alumni and placement director. In addition, he was pastor of a new church start launched in 2005, Cowboy Trail Church in Cochrane.
He and his wife, Nancy, were appointed missionaries by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in 1987, assigned to the Canadian seminary, where they served for 19 years. Initially appointed as professor of New Testament and Greek, he served in that role until moving to his preaching and pastoral ministry faculty post in 2000.
He was pastor of Garfield Baptist Church in Garfield, Ky., from 1976-78, and pastor of the First Baptist Church of Whitwell, Tenn., from 1978-82. While pursuing his doctoral degree, he served in interim pastorates at Baptist churches in Mississippi and Louisiana. He has served in six interim pastorates in Alberta, Canada. He also led the start of two other churches while at CSBS, Bow Valley Baptist Church in Cochrane, launched in 1987; and Mountain View Christian Fellowship in Calgary, launched in 1995.
In addition to his faculty post, McGough filled a variety of administrative roles at CSBS. He was the seminary’s registrar from 1987-93, and served as faculty/student liaison from 1993-2005.
McGough is the author of “A Chronology of Acts” in The Theological Educator, and “Studies in Galatians” and “Growth Basics” in Touch Points: Encouraging New Growth.
McGough and his wife, the former Nancy Sue Carter, have been married for more than 30 years. They have one adult son, Micah.
