Dr. Jerry Faught has published many articles including “Isaac McCoy: Successful Missionary or Successful Humanitarian?” and “The Biblical Theology of Herschel H. Hobbs: An Exposition of the Southern Baptist Grass Roots Via Media.” His recent projects include the “Baptists” section of the Encyclopedia of the Great Plains, published in Fall 2004, and Where The Grass Roots Grow: A Biography of Herschel H. Hobbs, a work-in-progress. He also will be writing a chapter on Independent Baptists in The Baptist Tradition: One Stream, Many Tributaries to be published in the summer of 2006. He recently delivered a series of lectures on Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism to the students at the Baptist Seminary in Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Faught has received the Baptist Heritage Sermon Award from the BGCO for 1997 and the Norman W. Cox Award for Writing the Best Article Published by the Southern Baptist Historical Society in 1999. He was chaplain at Integris Baptist Hospital from 1996-2000. At OBU, Dr. Faught acts as the Zeta Pi Lambda faculty sponsor. He is a member, deacon, and Sunday school teacher at Quail Springs Baptist Church. He is married to Kelly Owens Faught, an OBU graduate and Assistant Principal at Angie Debo Elementary in Edmond. They have two daughters, Lindsey and Lexi.
