ADMISSION AND PROGRESSION CRITERIA
Criteria for Admission to Upper Division Nursing Courses
1. Earn a minimum 2.25 GPA in Unified Studies Courses
2. Achieve a minimum of 2.25 overall GPA
3. Complete the following courses with a minimum of a 'C': NURS 110 (Nursing Seminar), NURS 201 (Nutrition), and NURS 202 (Intro to Nursing)
4. Complete the following courses with a minimum of a 'C': US 112 (Chemistry), BIOL 235 (Human Anatomy), US 123 (Sociology), BIOL 236 (Human Physiology), BIOL 227 (Microbiology), MATH 116 (College Algebra), PSY 122 (Psychology), and STAT 200 (Basic Statistics)
5. Repeat no more than a total of two courses in the Unified Studies Core, Degree Core, and Area of Concentration. (May repeat any one course only one time.
6. Compete EPE (English Proficiency Exam) and Computer Literacy Requirement
7. Achieve a satisfactory score on a math calculation exam
8. Complete a minimum of 36 semester hours of Unified Studies Core
9. Provide documentation of current CPR certification from a course approved by the nursing faculty
10. Provide documentation of completion of health requirements for assigned clinical experiences
11. Complete battery of tests which will be used for advisement through the Office of Testing.
12. Submit an OSBI criminal history record with the completed application to the School of Nursing. OSBI checks must be dates February 1 or later in the year of application
13. For courses taken during the summer session at another college or university, assure that all official transcripts are in the academic center and copies of grade reports are in the School of Nursing Office no later than August 15.
General Criteria for Progression in Area of Concentration Course
1. Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.00 in Area of Concentration Courses
2. Repeat no more than two upper level courses in the Area of Concentration
3. Earn a minimum of a 'C' in each of the Area of Concentration Courses
4. Achieve a minimum average of 70% on exams in each of the following courses: NURS 315 (Care of Acutely Ill Clients). NURS 316 (Care of Families), NURS 317 (Pharmacology I), NURS 318 (Pharmacology II), NURS 321 (Pathophysiology), NURS 322 (Psychopathology), NURS 413 (Community), NURS 414 (Complex Nursing), and NURS 415 (Psychopathology and Long Term Care)
5. Achieve minimal competency on critical criteria identified on evaluation form for clinical courses
6. Provide documentation of current CPR certification from a course approved by the nursing faculty
7. Provide documentation of completion of health requirements for assigned clinical experiences
Criteria for Progression to Second Semester Senior Level Courses
Achieve a satisfactory Nursing Proficiency Score (a minimum of 50) or satisfactory completion of NURS 450 (Nursing Proficiency Review). |
