  • Anthropology

    GOALS: These goals determine the content and character of the Anthropology program:

    Knowledge:
    - Students will comprehend anthropological concepts and their significance.
    - Students will understand anthropological research methods, ethical considerations, and theoretical trends.

    Skills:
    - Students will analyze the character of contemporary anthropological discourse.
    - Students will lead class discussions and deliver class and/or co-curricular presentations.
    - Students will engage in bibliographic and/or ethnographic research to produce a substantial, thesis-centered and/or ethnographic research paper.
    - Students will obtain hands-on, practical experience applying anthropological knowledge.

    Attitudes:
    - Students will pose critical, sophisticated, applied questions concerning the human condition and its diverse expressions.
    - Students will appreciate complexity and contingency, recognizing the limitations of anthropological knowledge.
    - Students will consider the relationship of the discipline and the application of anthropological knowledge to Christian faith and practice.

    History

    GOALS: These goals determine the content and character of the History program:

    Knowledge:
    - Students will know historical facts and understand their significance.
    - Students will understand primary historical methods and historiographical trends.

    Skills:
    - Students will analyze historical argumentation thoroughly.
    - Students will lead discussions and make oral report successfully.
    - Students will use fruitful library research, including primary sources, to produce an extended, clear narrative and/or analysis and/or argument.

    Attitudes:
    - Students will ask penetrating, useful questions as they interpret the past.
    - Students will appreciate complexity and contingency, recognizing the limits of historical knowledge.
    - Students will think seriously about the relationships between Christian faith and the discipline of history.
