Admissions Requirements

The Admission Requirements to the College of Graduate and Professional Studies include the following:

  • Application for Admission
  • Official Academic Transcript*
  • A current Resume
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Two Recommendation Forms (Three for MFT applicants)
  • Apply for Financial Aid
  • Graduate Exam score:
    • MFT applicants – GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
    • MBA applicants – GMAT (Graduate Management Assessment Test)
      • The GMAT exam score must be submitted prior to acceptance into the MBA Program. The applicant’s undergraduate GPA combined with a multiplier of 100 and the student’s GMAT score must be no less than 750. Applications with a score of less than 750 will be submitted to the MBA Admission Committee for review.
      • Students may request a GMAT waiver if they feel they meet the GMAT waiver criteria:
        • 3.25 undergraduate GPA plus 5 years of relevant work experience, or
        • An earned advanced degree (Masters or higher) from a regionally accredited university
        • All other admission requirements (e.g. prerequisite coursework, applications, recommendations, etc.) to remain unchanged

International Students must also submit the following documents:

  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (see score requirements below)
  • International Student Financial Guarantee - Part I and II
  • Passport copy
  • Transcripts and degree evauluation (list of approved agencies)

*Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or foreign equivalent as approved by specific program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Official transcript(s) must reflect work from all colleges or universities contributing to your degree. Degree Requirements:

MBA

The undergraduate degree does not need to be in a business field; in fact, working professionals with degrees in other fields are strongly encouraged to apply. For non-business majors, demonstration of basic competency in general business knowledge, including financial accounting, economics, finance, and business math and statistics, is required. Competency can be demonstrated by:

Conditional Acceptance: Applicants who meet all admission requirements, apart from demonstrating competency in all of the four needed areas, will be accepted conditionally. The student must demonstrate or document proficiency in all areas of foundational knowledge before beginning course work.

Full-time work experience of at least two years is preferred, with a strong desire to develop leadership potential. Exceptional students with less work experience may be considered on a space-available basis.

MSN

To be considered for enrollment in the MSN degree program, applicants must have earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and have completed a basic statistics course. Additionally, two years of RN experience is preferred.

  1. Current license to practice professional nursing in the United States
  2. Successful completion of a basic statistics course
  3. A baccalaureate degree with an upper division major in nursing from a program accredited by an approved nursing accrediting body
  4. A minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 in the last 60 hours of coursework toward the undergraduate nursing degree
  5. Two years full time work experience as a registered nurse is preferred. Exceptional students with less work experience may be considered on a space-available basis

TOEFL and IELTS

Students whose first language is not English and whose undergraduate degree was not earned from an accredited college or university in the U.S. must submit official results of either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) directly from the corporation to OBU (institution code: 6541) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

The minimum score requirements for TOEFL are:

  • 550 on the paper-based test
  • 213 on the computer-based test or
  • 80 on the internet-based test.

Students whose TOEFL or IELTS score is too low are strongly encouraged to consider enrolling in OBU’s Intensive English Program (IEP). This campus-based program is designed to develop language skills which will help facilitate academic success when the student leaves the IEP and proceeds to graduate work. Transfer Credits

A maximum of six credit hours or two courses from an accredited graduate school will be considered for transfer credit. Only grades of B or above will be considered, and coursework should have been completed within the last six years. Transfer credit requests will be carefully evaluated by the academic deans, and are not automatically granted.
