Dr. Louima Lilite, tenor, comes to OBU in the fall of 2008 as Assistant Professor of Voice in the School of Fine Arts. He earned his doctorate in April 2008 at the prestigious Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Carol Webber. He has been praised for his “warm tone and sensitive interpretation,” and “his clear voice [which] soars and carries.” A seasoned performer, he is known as a recitalist, soloist, pianist, and accompanist, performing in masterclasses conducted by Dawn Upshaw, Leonid Smetannikov, Menahem Pressler, Béla Siki, Howard Karp, Earle Patriarco, and Douglas Yates. He has won several awards and competitions including the 2006-2007 Teaching Assistant Excellence in Teaching Award at the Eastman School of Music, the Presser Award, Outstanding Musician of the year in both piano and voice, and First Place Winner in the Advanced division of the NATS Eastern Region Conference Auditions to name a few.
His performing credits include works from opera, oratorio, chamber music, and the art song repertories. Some of his favorite performances include Count Belfiore in Mozart’s La finta Giardiniera, Poulenc’s Tel jour, telle nuit, Ravel’s Chansons Madécasses, Orff’s Carmina Burana, and the six Heine settings from Schubert’s Schwanengesang.
As a teacher, Dr. Lilite has served as a member of the voice faculty at Houghton College, Nazareth College, and as a TA at the Eastman School of Music from 2004-2008. He has taught, lectured, and coached in the United States and overseas for over thirteen years in private lessons, masterclasses, seminars, and summer programs. He is the coordinator of the annual North Haiti Music Camp in Limbé, Haiti. He has served as an adjudicator for the Phyllis Triolo Competition and for NATS student auditions. His students have won various awards and have been invited and/or accepted at the Eastman School of Music, Michigan State in Ann Arbor, Penn State University, the University of Illinois, and at summer programs at Aspen and Oberlin.
