
Composition
Students who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Music, composition degree receive the training required to matriculate at the best graduate schools in composition in the United States. Students receive a solid foundation in diverse areas including songwriting, orchestration, analog & digital synthesis, and musical arrangements.Graduates of OBU's composition program have continued on to pursue graduate-level work at prestigious schools including the University of Iowa, Westminster Choir College, and Yale. Students take courses in style analysis, contemporary idioms, applied composition, music synthesis, and compile a catalog of works suitable for a senior-level composition recital.
In addition, students take courses in conducting, advanced music literature, and other courses as per their personal interests and ideas.
Degrees Offered
Bachelor of Music, composition
Bachelor of Musical Arts, composition emphasis (with a minor outside music)
Composition Scholarship Audition
- 2-4 written scores of original compositions of contrasting styles
- A performance or recording of one of the original compositions above
Student will be asked to complete a short exam in music fundamentals at the audition.
It is preferable that the music application, score, and recording be sent ahead of the audition date. Be sure that your name is on all copies of music and recordings.
